Chronological Bible

The Bible is not in chronological order. For example, the entire book of Job takes place in the middle of the account in Genesis. The books of Kings, Chronicles, and Samuel overlap covering mostly the same time period. To add to the confusion, sometimes the same story is repeated in the same book with a different emphasis. That is the case with the Gospels in the New Testament as they present the same gospel message aimed at different audiences. And while the gospels occur chronologically before the rest of the New Testament, the other books are not in chronological order. Many of the letters of Paul occur during the account in Acts of the Apostles. And 1 Corinthians was actually written before any of the other books, but is about things after the gospels chronologically. Also, some of the books in both testaments flash forward or flash back to other events in the middle of a narrative like many modern authors do. And the books themselves are mainly organized according to type rather chronologically.

Reading things in chronological order sounds like a good idea, especially to understand how one event led to another. However, it would be very complicated to make a truly chronological Bible. It would require verse by verse alignment. Not to mention the very difficult job of placing all of the Psalms in their proper order would be the work of several lifetimes, with a near guarantee that it won't be completely accurate. However, a simplified chronological order is not too difficult if you break it by chapter rather than verse, which is how this listing is organized. This aids in reading the Bible in a generally chronological order, without overly complicating the effort. This plan is available from numerous sources on the Internet.
