The Case For Christ : A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus
Lee Strobel was a real investigative reporter, (an endangered species,) and a self-proclaimed athiest. Lee's wife, Leslie, started going to church after being invited by their neighbor, Linda, (renamed Alfie in the movie,) repeatedly invited her. Lee didn't want to be married to a Christian, so he went with her to church in order to show her it was fake. Following the sermon that Sunday titled, "Basic Christianity" Lee set out to disprove it.
With a bachelor's degree in Journalism, a Yale master's degree in law, and years of experience as an award-winning investigative reporter, he was well equipped to investigate Christianity. He focused on evidence about Jesus outside the Bible, sure he would be able to disprove what the Bible said. Instead, after 21 months of investigation he ended up proving Jesus' death and resurrection.
Lee left journalism and went to work as a teaching pastor, taking a 60% pay cut. He has since hosted a Christian television program, written several books, and is a university Professor of Law and Professor of Christian Thought.
This book has been made into a great movie. However, the movie leaves out most of the actual investigation and information that was uncovered. Not to mention the movie had to condense some events into one for time.
